A few weeks ago, I drew a comic in which some guy with long grey hair and sunglasses attempts explaining to me that Elon Musk isn’t a Nazi. The guy wasn’t a new dude that I’d just made up! I’m sure very few of my readers know that he’s actually called The King of Women, and he’s one of the very first characters from my old LOAD comic strip.
I began drawing LOAD in late 2000, during my second year in college. At first, I was just drawing the comic and uploading it to my own website. Pretty soon, my college newspaper, the Independent Florida Alligator, started printing it in their weekly entertainment section. LOAD was eventually picked up by a few other local newsweeklies around the USA. I kept LOAD going until early 2009.
The King of Women first appeared in LOAD in November 2000. He was based on a real guy I’d met at a friend’s apartment. I was hanging out with two girls and this white dude in a dirty wifebeater tank top came over and started rapping. The girls were enthralled but I thought he was the worst thing ever. I put my disgust into my new comic and thus the King of Women was born…
