For those of you wondering why my umbrella is black on top when open but reveals the purple inside when folded, it’s because I carry the “inverted” style. According to the seller’s description, inverted umbrellas are useful because:

You can open and close the umbrella in confined space when entering or exiting a building or car, it is less awkward and safer to open to open and close when crows, since the danger to poke in people's eyes has been removed by the design.

We live in an age of miracles. Watch out for those crows though.

Convention update

I was at ClexaCon in Anaheim this past weekend and participated in the Queer Representation in Comics panel. Here’s a photo with particularly unflattering lighting!

Yes, I have on the exact same thing that’s in today’s comic. Because I draw myself wearing what I actually wear! Now that’s value! If I just blew your mind, why not subscribe now??

Housekeeping

Okay so subscribers may have noticed that it’s been a few weeks since my last post. The reason is that this comic took much longer than I anticipated. I’m discovering that I just don’t have the same stamina to sit and draw for long periods of time like I used to. I’ve actually heard this same thing from many other cartoonists over the last year or so. Best we can figure is that it’s an unexpected consequence of the pandemic and, you know, the growing feelings of dread and impending doom that seem to have invaded American life.

So, here’s the thing: When I started this Substack six months ago, I’d imagined that this would be a weekly comic strip. But taking into account how much longer it takes me to draw these comics now, especially since I’m putting a lot more work into the art, “weekly” probably isn’t an achievable goal going forward. However, I’d still like to aim for weekly posts, even if they’re not all brand-new completed comics.

The thing is, I’ve always been averse to posting comics that are still “in-progress” because I really don’t like giving away the endings before the whole thing is complete. But maybe my paid subscribers would like to see that stuff? Or would you folks rather not have the stuff spoiled before it’s ready? I’ll post a poll just for y’all to decide, so please let me know!
